Ballroom

The ballroom or drawing room was used for formal entertaining. The room features an 1870 Knabe sqaure grand piano that was built in Baltimore, Maryland. Portraits of Governor and Mrs. Lloyd Lowndes are prominently displayed in the room. Governor Lowndes was the first Republican governor in Maryland, and the only governor to come from Allegany County.

The step-through windows were used as doorways in the summer months when guests felt a need for a breathe of fresh air. The beautiful cloisonne and brass chandelier hanging in the center of the room was orginally a gas fixture. The room with its crown molding is elegant in its simplicity.
